Baker H. Morrow | Horse on the Sidewalk | Author Talk & Book Signing

BERNALILLO—The Martha Liebert Public Library and Casa Urraca Press are pleased to announce that New Mexico author Baker H. Morrow will be reading from his latest work, The Horse on the Sidewalk.

This “engaging collection of 11 coming-of-age stories” (Albuquerque Journal) is of particular interest to those readers interested in the history of our region. Morrow will give a talk and reading, followed by a booksigning with copies available for purchase. In these interconnected short stories, young Gil Wheeler has one thing on his mind: making enough money to land his own motorcycle. Maybe even a girlfriend. Between selling papers and hawking rings, he dreams of adventure and exploration beyond the expanding edge of post-war Albuquerque. Together, Gil and his friends navigate their just-built junior high and the desert landscape beyond their new suburb—a neighborhood that, much like their young lives, is brimming with both fresh possibility and the promise that not all dreams will come true.

Baker H. Morrow is a third-generation New Mexican. He was born in Albuquerque, where he has lived in both the valley and the heights. After a stint in the Peace Corps, he worked as a landscape architect in his own office and as a professor at the University of New Mexico for many years. He is the author of two other collections of short stories and of Best Plants for New Mexico Gardens and Landscapes and other works.
