Renaissance poetry offers young actors language, history, and a means of addressing life with appropriate emotions. Participation in the Young Renaissance Scholars Acting Troupe leads to a public group performance (set for this February) of Renaissance England’s immortal poets, culminating in the sonnets of Shakespeare. The weekly workshops are focused on textual analysis, verse technique, diction, projection, euphony, expression, blocking, and audience management. Our instructors are the father-son theatrical team of James and Joshua Ireland, longtime members of Albuquerque’s community theatre world. James has over twenty years of acting experience and has been featured on America’s Most Wanted, as well as numerous independent feature films, shorts, and industrials.
Additionally, he has played leading roles in many classical plays, including Shakespeare, Moliere, and Euripides. Son Joshua has been in front of audiences since the age of five, performing locally with the Cardboard Playhouse in lead roles for summer productions of Finding Nemo Jr., Seussical Kids, Willy Wonka Jr., and others, as well as a short film. Participation is free, but please call the Library at (505) 867-1440 to register, as places are limited.
