Create a Retablo of San Lorenzo using traditional techniques!
This is a free, two-session workshop, with an optional third day (June 25) if you need extra time to finish your retablo. Completed retablos will be displayed in the Bernalillo Community Museum in August during the temporary Matachines exhibition. Participants can take their retablos home after the exhibition.
Workshop is limited to 10 participants.
Instructor: Santera Eliana Barela
Cautions to note for Participants
- While we will be using aprons and gloves, there is a good chance of mess
- Those with sensitive skin are highly recommended to wear gloves
- Hand-wash buckets are used in place of a sink; no gesso materials can go down the sink
- With the use of pottery plaster and marble dust, particulate masks are offered (especially those sensitive to particulates)
- We will be using a hot plate; no extreme temperatures are used; however, caution is still required
Please note that space is very limited—only 10 participants will be accepted, and spots fill quickly. To ensure fairness, we kindly ask that you register only if you are available to attend both workshop sessions.
