«Return to Community Spotlight Listing Nearly New Helps Women Shine

A nice armchair in front of a large mirror is surrounded by suit jackets, purses and pearls. It looks ready for someone to step out of the dressing room.

Located in a historic building on Camino Del Pueblo, the Nearly New clothing store has been helping women dress for success since 1997. The store, began by community member Fawn Dolan, takes donations of gently loved, business casual clothing to sell and to give to women who need to dress professionally but might not have access to such a closet.

Dolan has operated nonprofits in various capacities since 1984 – for her, giving back to her community is essential. Nearly New started out as a single cupboard full of clothes donated by Dolan and some friends and has blossomed into its current business over the last 27 years.

In addition to selling quality professional clothing to women at an affordable price, Nearly New also accepts referrals from local women’s shelters and other nonprofits and services. Women with a referral can go in, shop for what they need for free, and be ready to attend job interviews, to begin a new job, etc. Proceeds from the store go toward scholarships for teachers in local school districts, giving them funds for classroom supplies and activities. The store manager, Peggy Koontz, can give pointers on how to dress for success. She has been operating the store since the very beginning and her fiery energy is a huge part of Nearly New’s generous spirit and welcoming atmosphere.
